True Art is Lonely

words & music: JP Den Tex

Watch the neighborhood’s China chef

Walking his comical furry dog

I’ve never heard him raise his voice

They’re so at peace they don’t need talk

But the restaurant that they own

Keeps losing customers it seems

Although the Dim-Sum that they serve

Is worth a thousand fast-food dreams

True art is lonely

True art’s a lonely place to be

True art is lonely

It doesn’t beg for sympathy

Watch the singer on the sidewalk

With his worn-out Stetson hat

If the coins don’t come quickly

He’ll put it right back on instead

He’ll keep strumming for the wind

For that rare uncommon bird

For them truly wild at heart

Whose cri-de-coeur ain’t often heard

True art is lonely

True art’s a lonely place to be

True art is lonely

It doesn’t beg for sympathy

They say this kingdom that we’re chasing

Is no longer written in the stars

Yet the moon will stay its course

Won’t even blink

True art is lonely

True art’s a lonely place to be

True art is lonely

It doesn’t seek no strategy

Watch the cliff house taking shape

As the starlight slowly fades

Early riser on the beach

Takes a breath and meditates

Is G… dead or is he all?

Plain human fiction, or a fact?

Just watching his break of dawn

One cannot but praise his act

True art is lonely

True art’s a lonely place to be

True is lonely

It doesn’t seek no strategy
